Iron Man (Downey Jr), Captain America (Evans), Thor (Hemsworth), Black Widow (Johannsson), Hawkeye (Renner) and the Hulk (Ruffalo) return in the second Avengers movie to fight the latest threat mankind. Put that way, it sounds kind of dull. But if you have watched the other 10 Marvel movies, you know there is a lot of action to make things interesting.
In Age of Ultron, the Avengers take on Ultron, a programme which was accidentally created by one of their own –Stark/Iron Man. The movie opens with the team attacking Hydra headquarters to stop Baron Wolfgang von Strucker from experimenting on humans. Strucker had been using Loki’s scepter to enhance people’s abilities. They successfully shutdown his operation, releasing super powered twins Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch in the process.
Stark being Stark, cannot resist the chance to make the most of Loki’s sceptre. Since he has a defence programme, Ultron, which needs artificial intelligence to be fully functional, and the sceptre has this in plenty, with the help of Banner/The Hulk, he harnesses it and incorporates it into Ultron. But like machines tend to do in movies, Ultron decides humans need to be destroyed. He creates a robot army and uses the twins’ powers to create confusion among the Avengers. The Avengers have to work out their problems to save mankind.
You have to be up to date with your Marvel Cinematic Universe info to follow what is going on, otherwise you will have questions about Loki’s sceptre, Hydra headquarters, how Agent Hill is now working for Stark Industries yet she used to work with S.H.I.E.L.D and so many other questions. The first question can be answered if you watched the first Avengers movie and the last two by watching Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
So, while the movie is definitely action-packed enough to keep you entertained, it might be a dizzying watch for anyone who is particular about storylines and how everything ties in together.
