Irish Wish premiered just in time for St Patrick’s Day (another reason for us to throw a party even when we don’t fully understand what it’s about). While there were fewer green-themed parties in the 256 this year, we had this movie starring Lindsay Lohan to give us several Irish anecdotes.

In Irish Wish, Lohan plays Maddie, a book editor who has a huge crush on, Paul Kennedy, the writer of the latest book she worked on. However, Paul is marrying her friend, Emma (Tan). When a strange woman asks Maddie to make a wish, she wishes that she was married to Paul. The next time she wakes up, she’s in an alternate universe where she is engaged to Paul. Getting her wish is not as dandy though. Are they ever? Not to mention, Thomas (Speelers), the cute English guy she met before the wish doesn’t remember her despite their chemistry.

Despite avoiding spoiler alerts, you should know that the movie is riddled with every cliche you can think of. If you don’t know this, then you haven’t watched enough romantic comedies on Netflix, and I apologise for the apparent cynicism. Yet Irish Wish has a certain charm to it that makes it bearable to watch. Seventy per cent of that charm is Lohan who never lost that screen it factor while she was not acting. The other thirty per cent is Ed Speelers’ laid-back screen rizz and the beautiful locations of the movie.

It’s good to see Lindsay Lohan back in action, this time as an Executive Producer. However, there’s no denying that she is punching below her weight. Hopefully, we’ll get to see her in more worthwhile movies. For now, this is just enough to tide us over. Watch this if you’re looking for very light entertainment.
