Lupita Nyong’o turns to cat ‘Yoyo’ after heartbreak

Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o recently welcomed a new addition to her life – a furry feline friend.

This heartwarming move comes just weeks after Lupita’s breakup with her boyfriend, Masekele.

Taking to her social media accounts, she introduced her “child” to the world, attributing her breakup as the catalyst for this bold decision, considering she had not been a fan of cats before.

“Introducing my new companion, Yoyo! I have historically been afraid of cats, but when my life was instantly altered recently, a little voice whispered to me that it was time to embrace change and new possibilities.

So, a dear friend (shoutout to Palmer Hefferan!) held my hand through the process and took me to visit my first animal shelters. I fostered Yoyo from Best Friends Adoption Center, and three days into it, I knew I could not give him up.”

The actress also shared some initial observations about her newfound friend:

Yoyo loves companionship.
Yoyo is a food enthusiast.
He exhibits remarkable grace and rarely drops things.

Yoyo is quite selective about his wand toys.
He exclusively drinks running water.
He’s a champion at dealing with any household bugs.
He’s not to be trusted around supplements.
Lupita humorously added, “I never understood people whose phones were full of photos and videos of their pets – now I am one of those people!”

Lupita Nyong’o now sees Yoyo as a source of solace, declaring, “It may look like I saved Yoyo, but really, Yoyo is saving me. #YOYOYYO #Caturday. And shoutout to the fantastic staff at @bestfriendsanimalsociety for being so warm, helpful, and patient with me!”

Lupita Nyong’o officially confirmed the end of her one-year-long relationship with her boyfriend, Selema Masekela, as of October 19, 2023.

Lupita, deeply saddened, took to her social media to share the personal truth.

Lupita and Selema went public about their relationship in December 2022.

In her Instagram post, Lupita Nyong’o began by acknowledging the pressing global issues, expressing her thoughts and empathy for those enduring profound suffering.

She then delved into the personal revelation that has been weighing on her.

Lupita, refraining from naming anyone, expressed the need to unveil a personal truth to the public and distance herself from an individual she can no longer place her trust in.

“At this moment, it is necessary for me to share a personal truth and publicly dissociate myself from someone I can no longer trust…” Nyong’o wrote.

The actress went on to describe her current emotional state, characterized by heartbreak resulting from a love that was suddenly and devastatingly extinguished by deception.
