Karamoja, a movie about inter-tribal marriages screens

Uganda Communications Commission gave an opportunity to Ugandan content creators in the movie industry by calling for a content development funding grant and among the first recipients was Eleanor Nabwiso.

The former ‘Hostel’ actress won a Shs130 million grant and being a movie enthusiast, she invested the money in a feature film titled ‘Karamoja’ which screened last Friday at Century Cinema Acacia.

The film took three weeks of filming and about four months of post-production.

With Eleanor as the producer and her husband Matthew Nabwiso as the director, nothing could go wrong as the power couple has given us some of the best production over the years.

‘Karamoja’ is about inter-tribal marriages with the story rotating around James, a Muganda man, who is faced with cultural differences when he decides to meet his fiancés family. He has to cope with their demands to marry their only daughter whom they invested heavily in. Giving up at first, James changed his mind and went and fought for what is his. His determination and love is what they really wanted.

The movie shows off the beautiful parts of Karamoja and the different tribal and cultural traditions in Buganda and Karamoja.

The invite-only event saw the cast, representatives from UCC, friends and people in the movie sector in attendance.

With the first screening being a success, the couple hopes to have it shown more in cinemas and online platforms.

Eleanor Nabwiso is a renowned actress, producer and director; married to a celebrated actor and director Mathew Nabwiso.

They have won awards both locally and internationally and are currently producing the highest-viewed television series ‘Sanyu series’.
