Greater Ankole musicians urged to work together

Ankole musicians both secular and gospel under the umbrella Greater Ankole Musicians Association (GAMO) have been advised to work together and have respect for one another if they want to thrive to greater heights.

Speaking at the association’s meeting on Tuesday at Roof Top Mbarara, Kabaka Symo the president of the Ankole Musicians Association said there is a need for local artists to work together and be passionate in whatever they do since music is their career.

“We committed our lives to music, which means we must pursue it until our deaths, and we must be passionate about it as well. We came into this career not prepared and this world is led by the prepared ones, it is your career if you don’t focus on it you end badly, don’t fight alone, come on board we fight together, my dream is to see the western industry as one,” said Kabaka Symo.

Kabaka Symo adds that for Ankole Music to thrive artists should leave behind beef and focus on creating desired content advising them to support one another.

“We need to be focused and have credible content, let us be creative, Let us avoid behaviors that take us off the track, it is our business and our career, please respect one another, stop judging yourselves, it is the audience to judge. Stop disrespecting people. When someone is better than you join them, we are fighting to better our music business and this is the time,” he said.

Ms Charity Kyobutungi aka Sister Charity, also a legendary artist, advised fellow artists to unite. She hopes that togetherness would take Ankole Music ahead of other regions.

“Unity is paramount for us to meet our targeted goals. Let each of us offer whatever we can, be it unity, support, or whatever. I am very ready to collaborate with you and if possible we can start testing ourselves for collaborations. I hope that with unity and support among us, we can be the next region’s best in music,” she said.

Rasta Cherz a legendary singer said he is stressed to see Ankole artistes poor and yet they have numbers who love, support and follow them. He advises them to have discipline and follow their legends.

“I am agitated to see that every artist in western Uganda has his own fans and can command crowds. Why are we still poor? Without togetherness, we are heading nowhere. I request you to be disciplined, you can have great music but once you are undisciplined, people will get tired of you that is why you see me can still perform on stage and people hype me because of discipline I turned my audience, my friends,” he said.

Penny Patra aka she-wolf inspiration singer “Let us love ourselves before we say to love and support others, the problem is here we do not love and support what we do, we want to imitate others’ vocals and that does not work. Let us be ourselves and let politics not command us what to do because they put us off track.”

Greater Ankole Musicians Association (GAMO) comprises artists from 13 districts and artists unanimously agreed to support the national musician’s federations in embracing and advocating for Copyright Law.
