Falling for Christmas is just as cheesy as its title. Yet this typical Hallmark-vibe Christmas movie was a delight to watch. The movie follows Sierra Belmont (Lohan), daughter and heiress of a wealthy hotelier, Beauregard Belmont (Wagner) who was recently appointed her Vice President of Atmosphere at the hotel. Sierra is not too keen about the appointment or working at the hotel but does not have to heart to disappoint her father, especially since she is not what she wants to do with her life.
When a tumble down a hill during a getaway with her living-for-the-gram boyfriend leaves her with amnesia, she is left at the mercy of the stranger who finds her. That not-so stranger is Jake (Overstreet), owner of a BnB. Since Sierra does not remember who she is, she stays with the widowed Jake, his daughter and mother. If you have watched enough Hallmark movies, you know how this ends.
Falling for Christmas’ charm is definitely not the story. It is seeing Lindsay Lohan in a big movie production after a long time. After making headlines for her court and addiction battles, it is refreshing to see her healthy and working. Then there is the surprisingly entertaining side plot that is Sierra’s boyfriend, Tad. Tad also fell down the hill but on the opposite end from Sierra, and he has his own adventure of seeing what life off the grid is like. That this is just the movie to watch if you want a quick escape from those end of year blues is a bonus point.
