Broken English: FDC trolled for misspelling ‘mourn’ at Bamwoze burial

The burial of retired Busoga Diocese Bishop Cyprian Bamwoze left Uganda with a number of things to talk about. First was former vice president Dr Specioza Wandira Kazibwe snubbing singer/politician Bobi Wine in public.

Now the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has also come under fire as some of their members were seen donning shirts with wrongly spelled words. The word in question is one that many have failed to spell correctly and could easily land one in trouble.

To the shock of mourners, FDC members wore black shirts with the words ‘FDC morns Bamwoze’. The letter ‘U’ was conspicuously missing from the word mourns which left some wondering exactly what the Opposition party meant. What was supposed to a good gesture quickly turned into a source of ridicule and shame.

Of course social media grammar critics were not letting this pass without a good laugh. Here are some of the comments on the T shirts.

David Okiring: This must be Honorable Kato Lubwama’ prints!! Please Lord, where did we go wrong!

True Nams: I am also grieving the loss of letter ‘U’ in their morning!

Prince Woody Bagala-Alina Kayanja: Actions may speak louder than words, but misspelled words speak louder than any action!

Aricco Daudi: Another episode on keeping up with “FDC comedy”

Dien Flavia Zaake: One English one people

Halima Mutesi: Hahahaha very disorganized as if they were just forced

Patrick W. Bukenya: “Morns”! Indeed they didn’t go to #Mourn! It was cheap politics at play

Henry Wanume: At least they did better than some daily which wrote “moans.”

Like Wanume pointed out, it could have been worse. So we are grateful that they did not use ‘moan’ like many have in the past.
