Even with a major background in organising events, TV host Calvin Kalule, aka Calvin the Entertainer, took a bold move last Saturday when he organised a party at Freedom City. The party was to celebrate his 11 years in the media.
Although many were skeptical about the success of the Takeover Party, Calvin came out smiling because even before night fell, there were more numbers than he had estimated.
The event poster seemed like a joke when it announced more than 60 artistes slated to perform. Much as most of the performers were little-known, there were some big names such as Eddy Kenzo, Pallaso and Weasel. Bebe Cool, Bobi Wine, Sheebah, Fik Fameica, Nina Roz and Chameleone were a no-show.
With the ordinary section fully-packed, the revellers seemed to care less about who showed up on stage. They just cheered on, typical of people just out to have fun.
There was no sign about whose show this was, until Mr Mosh, the night’s MC announced Calvin a few minutes to midnight.
The man of the night came on stage high on energy but you could not miss the nervousness as he struggled to pull lazy dance moves. And probably to beat his anxiety, he called Weasel on stage.
There was a bit of a confused mess in between and a few minutes past midnight the long lost Coco Finger came on stage but before the curtains could drop, revellers were already walking out.
