Communal drinking was for long associated with traditional brews such as malwa, Tonto and mwenge bigere. But not anymore. Uganda Waragi has ushered in a new way to enjoy the spirit — in a bowl.
At the #SoUg party hosted by rapper The Mith Tom Mayanja recently, who also likes to call himself Uganda Waragi took us back to the experience of kwete, ajon, mukomboti and malwa when they introduced the bowl to the people that love the spirit of Uganda.
The party, hosted at Route 256 in Kampala, attracted socialites of Kampala’s. The Mith rolled out the party, demonstrating how to enjoy the spirit. The idea is that, using a four-litre-bowl, mix one bottle of Uganda Waragi, one bottle of Uganda Waragi Coconut, five freshly diced apples, one cup of lemon juice, half a cup of sugar syrup, a litre of cranberry juice, a litre of pineapple juice and 10 fresh passion fruits. When the mix is ready, throw in some ice cubes for good measure and finally taste.
According to Rhona Namanya, the Uganda Waragi brand manager, the innovation is to encourage more people to enjoy the drink together.
“We know what our customers like to share a drink and bond. We are bringing back the communal drinking in the real spirit of Uganda,” she said.
