29 days of Sekukulu Fiesta to celebrate Christmas, the African way

Christmas is around the corner and with it, comes several fetes to celebrate the Christian festivity in the runup to the commemoration of the birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Nicholas Nyombi, the organiser of Victoria Gospel Agency (VIGA) awards is organiser a fete dubbed the ‘Sekukulu Fiesta’ whose highlight is to talk about an African Christmas rendition with a Christmas market for 20 days with massively discounted goodies.

“We plan to create an annual Christmas monument that attracts local and international tourists, so we present our merrily saving Jesus,” Nyombi who goes by the alias of Akaikai, explains.

The fiesta is slated to take place at Uganda National Cultural Centre/National Theatre in Kampala, a venue choice he says is the highest temple of arts in the country.

He adds, “Gospel needs to represent and respected and this highest level. For a long time, gospel was underrated, but we thank God it is starting to get the recognition we deserve at that level. More collaborations with the National Theatre and UNCC are underway, including a regular gospel night at the National Theatre.”

His motivation for organizing the fiesta is to create platforms for ministry for the VIGA Awards winners and nominees and to promote Christian music as an alternative form of entertainment because it is clean and inspirational.

It is an event that will attract family and friends. “And it is not only Sekukulu Fiesta but all initiatives in that line that we are about to unveil. Beginning next year, we are going to be so busy. Participating artists will mainly be VIGA Awards winners & nominees then House of Talent will do a unique African Christmas production, and selected choirs from the traditional Christian faiths will do respective carols.”

Nyombi further details, “We are inviting all interested corporates to get a stall and avail goodies at discounted or factory prices including foodstuffs, clothing, electronics, etc. Those interested to exhibit services are also welcome. For the organization, ViG-Academy is collaborating with UNCC, NCF, HOT, and Food Platz.”

The Sekukulu Fiesta starts on Sun 4th Dec 2022 with the red-carpet Joyous Carols Night and dinner, and the Christmas market kicks off on Monday 5th to 24th December 2022 and will feature Santa DJ, freestyle sessions, and merry-making with food and drinks

“For the Joyous Carols Night, one needs to buy an access ticket at 150k single & 250k for a couple. The market is free entrance daily,” the organiser adds.
