If someone asks you to name female singers in Uganda good at live music performance, Lillian Mbabazi would definitely be among those names.
She makes live music performance seem as how Argentina and Barcelona star Lionel Messi make scoring goals seem like a piece of cake. That is what exactly she did on Wednesday night at the Young Achievers Awards dinner organised by Reach A Hand Uganda (RAHU) at Kampala Serena Hotel.

Mbabazi’s 40 minutes performance left revelers majorly youths; fresh graduates, journalists and varsity students yearning for more. The excited audience sang along but the excitement increased as she performed duets she did with the fallen father of her children Mowzey Radio.

As she sang songs like I’m in love, she seemed a little sorrowful, perhaps because she was reflecting on the death of the much loved Mowzey, but the crowd motivated her with a thunderous applause and cheers. She performed songs like Vitamin and by the time, she left the stage there was complaints.

The dinner unveiled the 45 young people waiting to scoop awards on August 18 in categories of innovations & ICT, social entrepreneurship, farming and agro-processing, business, fashion, performing arts, sports personality, media & journalist and film and photography.

RAHU’s communications officer, Ibrahim Batambuze, says the awards process started about three months ago where over 400 young people showed interest in being recognised for their creativity and innovation but the judges have since zeroed down to 45 people taking five for each of the categories.

Daily Monitor sports scribe, Dallen Kyeyune, is listed in the media and journalism award with four others whereas Paralympic star David Emong, She Cranes (7s) and Joshua Kiprui Cheptegei are listed in outstanding sports personality category.

Batambuze says the awards are not intended to appreciate the young people because they have achieved it all but to encourage them push their dreams further in addition encouraging their peers to be innovative.
