Is it Eddy Kenzo’s time to win a Grammy?

Earlier this year, Eddy Kenzo received his first ever Grammy nomination for the song ‘Gimme love’ alongside Matt B but unfortunately, they lost out the award to South Africa’s Zakes Bantwini, Wouter Kellerman and Nomcebo Zikode in the Best Global performance.

With a Grammy considered the biggest accolade in the global music industry, it looks like Eddy Kenzo is not giving up. From having one submission last year, he has upgraded to submitting four songs this time round which have all beat the deadline of submission before the close of the window on September 15.

After receiving the news that his songs have been accepted, the Sitya Loss artiste went to his socials and posted the good news and also thanked God for the Blessings.

“I can’t stop thanking God for the Blessings. I look back at the times when I had no hope, when I was a nobody on the streets of Masaka and Kampala. Having all these tracks up for consideration for Grammys Recording Academy is indeed a miracle. I’ll keep sharing and spreading love for it is all that we must all live for. Thank you all For Your Consideration in the 66th Grammys,” he posted.

Kenzo’s submitted songs include Ukulele Esanyu on which he features Daniel Ho for the Best Global Music Performance, Positivity alongside the Masaka Kids Africana for the Best African Music Performance, Blessings for Best Global Music Album and Spread Hope Send Love around the World Ft various artistes in the Best Pop Duo/Group performance.

The Grammy’s introduced a new category known as the Best African Music and according to Harvey Mason Jr, the CEO of the Recording Academy, the introduction of this category is aimed at elevating African music and make the Grammy’s more inclusive.

“There’s so much music, so much creativity over there. Africa is the birthplace of, well, everything but definitely music,” he said adding that during his time in Africa, he heard from the continent’s music industry and felt like it wasn’t being represented in the Grammy awards process.

“It was an eye-opening experience to see the love and respect for the Grammys and the recording academy from the continent of Africa. But it was also disheartening to think that they weren’t being heard in our process.”

The 2024 Grammy Awards will be taking place on February 4, 2024 in the USA and we can only wish Kenzo the best.
