All roads led to Boma Grounds in Hoima on Monday evening as Bunyoro Kitara celebrated the kasiki to the 25th Empango. When the Prime Minister of the Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom, Owek. Andrew Byakutaaga called upon the Omukama’s subjects to show up in large numbers and make the silver jubilee one to remember, the subjects complied. The Pilsner Lager-sponsored party attracted thousands of loyal subjects from as far as Kibaale, Masindi and Buliisa districts.
The Empango commemorates the beating of the royal drum, which was the first ritual performed by the Omukama upon being crowned on June 11, 1994.
“25 years is a significant milestone and as the King’s beer, Pilsner Lager finds it fitting to ensure that the Empango, and cultural celebrations like it, get the full support and recognition they very much deserve,” said Edgar Kihumuro, the Brand Manager for Pilsner Lager.
The Empango Celebrations have been an annual four-day event on the calendar of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom and usually draw up to 2,000,000 people from across Uganda, Africa and the world. The King’s loyal subjects enjoyed dancing and lots of other competitions until the wee hours of the night, that saw the winners walk away with Pilsner goodies.
