Bobi Wine arrested, released after supporters went rowdy

Police in Kasangati, Wakiso District on Thursday arrested the independent candidate vying for Kyadondo East MP seat, Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu popularly known as Bobi Wine and briefly detained him at Kasangati Police Station before he was transferred to Kira Divisional police.

Here, he was detained for close to an hour before being released on orders of the Kampala Metropolitan Police commander Frank Mwesigwa after his supporters went rowdy and started vandalizing people’s property including cars.

However, Mwesigwa said Bobi Wine had been arrested.

“We picked him for an engagement meeting on the guidelines of his rally. We have agreed with him on the new venue where he’s going to stage his rally,” he said.

After his release, Bobi Wine who was flanked by his wife Barbie Itungo told journalists that: “Right now, I’m a free man and I’m going back to my constituency to campaign.”

Several minutes later Bobi Wine was seen taking selfies with a crowd of his supporters in the background.
