Strategy: When he was employed to work in an electrical shop during his S.4 vacation, Zavuga took it up with the hope that he would gain experience to open his own shop. In 2008, his dream was fulfilled.
What is the name of your business?
Zavuga Munagomba Electricals.
Why that name?
It is because I wanted a name that could reflect who I am. The name personifies me and where I come from.
What electricals do you sell at your shop?
I sell a number of items such as Spot Fittings used on Jipsum ceilings in bars, hotels and homes. I sell security lights, sockets from the UK, main switches and LED bulbs in all colours, cables, lamps and so on.
When did you start operating this business?
I started the business in 2008 with Shs4m on Market Street Nakasero.
How did you end up doing this job?
I was inspired by a man called Joseph Ssenfuma, who employed me during my S.4 vacation. It is with this experience and passion that I got the idea of being self-employed.
Where did you get your starting capital from?
I saved while working with Dott Service Ltd, Kawempe. They used to pay me Shs200,000 per month.
Where is your business located?
On Shoppers Stop Plaza, Seroma Building behind Shoprite on Ben Kiwanuka street.
Where do you buy the electrical appliances from?
From Dubai and China and the few that I can access here.
What challenges do you face doing this business?
There is high revenue, unstable market prices and lenders who never pay back or take long to pay.
How much do you sell your products?
They range from Shs2,000 to Shs100,000 both on wholesale and on retail prices.
For how long do you think you will be doing this business?
It is my life time business because it is what I understand most. I am also training my children to know how it operates so that when I pass on, they can take over.
What are some of the advantages you have got out of this business?
This business has helped me educate my children, I have constructed a house, where I live now and has also made me widen my contact list in and outside the business.
How much do you make in a day?
It depends on the day and season but on average, I make between Shs200,000 and Shs500,000.
