Like the saying goes, “There is a first time for everything”. I had a first time moment last weekend. When Abdu Mulaasi sang about women going to the “swimming pool” in their gomesis, I figured it was just a local chap trying to get even more local in his lyrics, but guess what?
I was at Silk Liquid when I saw a gomesi go past me. At first I thought I was dreaming until I noticed the same shock on the faces of those around me.
Yikes! Such a weird sight! What was a gomesi doing at such a hang out at that ungodly hour? Naye some people also! Why are they hell bent on catching up with trends that left them ages ago? What level of fixation is this?
Eh! No matter how much you try to justify it, it just does not add up. So someone gets a call that there is plot, get details of the venue and then they conclude that a gomesi is the most suited attire for a hangout like Silk Liquid.
This is totally unacceptable. So do such people have friends? That is the first question that shoots to the mind, because if they did, then they would advise accordingly or better still suggest an appropriate venue where gomesis fit in.
I think we owe it to ourselves to remain in check whenever the need arises. I do not understand how careless one can be (and this goes to both the wearer and the person who had that wearer ending up at such a place dressed like that) to walk around any how.
Without saying much, a gomesi for an outfit on a night out is a loud NO! So if you are past the age bracket of “dressing for the occasion”, then they are better off staying at home.
It saves a whole lot of face as opposed to doing the “walk of shame” amid stinging eyes and loud giggles and mockery that follows such careless acts.
