You don’t have the moral authority to lead an anti-corruption crusade – Bebe Cool to Gen Otafiire

Musician Moses Ssali, alias Bebe Cool, has responded to General Kahiinda Otafiire’s recent public call for young Ugandans to stand against corrupt leaders, questioning the General’s sincerity. Bebe Cool listed several corruption scandals involving Gen Otafiire since 2006 in a post on X, including links to the accusations.

The first incident he mentioned was the 2006 report by the Inspector General of Government (IGG), which pinned Gen Otafiire for interfering with the tendering process for the computerization of the Lands Registry. The IGG’s report, dated May 18, 2006, accused Gen Otafiire of disbanding the official evaluation committee and hand-picking a private firm, M/S Center for Procurement Management, to carry out the evaluation, contrary to PPDA Uganda regulations.

Bebe Cool also cited other incidents, including the “Pension suspects blame Otafiire” and “Eight suspects blame Otafiire still” reports by Monitor, as well as the “Otafiire named in land title scandal” report, which further highlighted General Otafiire’s alleged involvement in corrupt activities.

Bebe Cool expressed his belief that, as a senior leader, Gen Otafiire should have addressed these issues internally instead of making a public outcry, which he deemed insincere. He emphasized the need for a constructive approach to fighting corruption, saying, “We are all against corruption, but how we approach our war against it matters.” He concluded with, “For God and my Country.”
