Boda boda thieves climaxes Euro African film fest

The second Euro African Kampala Film Festival was climaxed last Saturday evening at the Hub, Cineplex Oasis Mall with a mammoth crowd turning up to watch the movie The Boda Boda Thieves.
The cinema hall was opened a few minutes past 8pm and just like any closing ceremony, there were speeches and the European Head of Delegation Mr Kristian Schmidt encouraged a better working relationship between Africa and Europe in promoting the movie industry.
“It’s great to see Africans and Europeans working together and I hope this will grow even bigger,” he said before the screening of a short film about the Ugandan Chess coach Robert Katende called Folk, Spoon and Mattress.
Boda boda Thieves, an 85 minutes film directed by Donald Mugisha screened at 9.30pm. It is about a small family consisting of Goodman, a character played by Michael Wawuyo, a renowned actor across Africa, Rosa and their teenage son Abel. Their hope of finding a better life in the city turns into a nightmare of daily subsistence when young Abel is entrusted with the family boda boda after his father gets involved in an accident. It isn’t long before things go wrong when Abel gets involved with city thugs who survive on the streets by snatching people’s property using his boda, which was also acquired on loan from a wealthy businessman. Things turn from bad to worse when it gets stolen and Abel’s father is imprisoned. At the end of the movie, Abel retrieves the boda but is to be taken to jail while his father is released.
Other notable cast members include artiste Peter Miles whose songs also featured as movie soundtracks  and Andrew Benon Kibuuka. The movie will is screening at Nakumatt Oasis Mall this whole week to give chance to everyone who missed it to watch it.
