Big musicians lose anti- drink driving ambassadorial role to Irene Ntale

gsp-ntale2

Singer Irene Ntale was last week named the new ambassador for Uganda Breweries’s Red Card campaign to combat driving under the influence of alcohol.
Ntale took over the role from legendary football referee, Charles Masembe, who was the 2013 ambassador.
Speaking during the unveiling of Ntale, Ms Charity Kiyemba, the corporate relations and legal Director at UBL said the Gyobera singer was chosen because of her reputable character, strong values, and appeal to millions of Ugandans between 18 and 35 years of age.
Ntale’s ambassadorial roles will include inspiring Ugandans to drink responsibly so that the roads are safe for all users, especially during the festive seasons.
Ntale has already recorded a song for the campaign that she hopes to use to amplify the awareness drive about responsible drinking in the society.
However, before settling for Ntale, the UBL team carried out a survey to find out who would best suit the role and all the names they got were for either renowned heavy drinking celebrities or Muslims.
Names like Patrick Idringi, Chameleone, Bebe Cool, Radio and Weasel, Bobi Wine, Irene Ntale and Eddy Kenzo and Anne Kasiime made it to the list.
According to a source at UBL, Anne Kansiime was disqualified because of her busy schedule that includes lots of overseas travel, while Kenzo is a staunch Muslim that cannot represent anything alcoholic. However, the rest of the names on the list are known drinkers; which wouldn’t be a problem, but they are known to drive under the influence of alcohol.
As such, the rest were disqualified for being bad examples as Irene Ntale, whose drinking habits are not very well known to us and the public, emerged the best candidate for the role. Congs Irene!
