She named her boutique Blessed Angel’s Fashions because she feels everything she lays her hands on is blessed.
Where did you get the money you used to start your business?
I used to work in a boutique before and I used to save the little I earned but never followed up how much I had until two years later when I just decided to go to the bank and inquire about my balance. I was surprised to find Shs4m on my account and I straight away withdrew the money and paid rent and then bought a display for the small items I had bought.
What are those small items you bought and how much did you pay for rent?
I paid rent for four months totalling to Shs3.2m, then bought a display at Shs300,000 then bought items like earrings, knickers, bangles, necklaces, lipstick and chains. I didn’t mind having started out small because at the end of the day I had fulfilled my dream of becoming independent.
Where did you get the determination to start this business?
I knew about this business since it was what I was doing previously. I knew the challenges, the kind of clients I was going to target, the market and so on. It was risky but I knew I was blessed.
What happened next?
After clearing rent, I started selling the small items and then got into women clothes, bags, plus ladies’ and men’s shoes.
How much do you sell those items?
Office and party dresses go from Shs50,000 to Shs400,000, bags cost between Shs50,000 and Shs300,000, pump shoes cost Shs50,000, heels go between Shs80,000 and Shs150,000, men’s gentle shoes cost Shs150,000 and jeans range from Shs20,000 to Shs50,000.
Why are your products so expensive?
I’m not expensive. It’s just that some of my products are designer items and you can’t get them cheaply anywhere. I’m talking about designers like Alex Marie, Tan jay, Antonio Melanie, Calvin Klein, Preston and York, Chelsea and Vanessa, Samantha Grey among others and even the country of origin matters.
Which countries do you get them from?
UK, US, Thailand, China and Dubai. All those items cost differently according to the country of origin.
What days is your shop open and where are you located?
The shop is open Monday to Saturday from 8am to 8pm and we are at Hotel Equatorial Mall, shop number 324, Level 3.
