Four One One

The sing for cash queen

KFM BIG WINNER: While the rest will be returning to school with ka pocket money, Hillary Kazoora Kemigabo will be returning with some bucks after emerging winner of the mega KFM Sing For Cash competition last year.

How did you become the overall winner of the 2017 Sing For Cash competition?
At home, our radio is never tuned away from KFM. We listen to KFM from day to evening during holidays and it is how I learnt and got the love for music.
I have been singing for cash at least twice every week for the last three years and in 2017, I was selected as the overall winner.

How did you start calling in to sing?
I like singing and because I wanted my voice to be heard on air, I decided to call Freddie during the Sing For Cash session on his D’hook show.

There are always many people calling in and lines are always busy, how do you manage to go through every time you call?
The only trick I have is that I saved all the three KFM numbers in that when I call Airtel and it is not going through, I call MTN or the other line. With all that, I cannot fail to go through.

You said you call at least twice every week, how many times did you win?
I won once every week because there are always two people calling in to sing and the listeners are the judges.

How do you feel when you do not win?
If I do not win, it means my competitor was better than me. I feel discouraged and encouraged at the same time because after that, I have to work on winning the next time.

What are some of the songs you have been singing during the competition?
I have done Wild Thoughts by Rihanna and DJ Khaled, Tikula and Muchuzi by Rema, Nkubanja by Lydia Jazmine and Ninga Omuloge by Naava Grey, among other songs.

Do you have dreams of becoming a singer?
My dreams of becoming a singer are so valid, although I am taking it slow because I am still in school. I record songs but not in studio so it is not serious at the moment.

Where do you go to school?
I am at Nsambya Secondary School and will be joining Form Six this year.

What is your best song at the moment?
I like Masuuka by Lydia Jazmine and Perfect by Ed Sheeran.

How much were you given for winning the overall competition?
I am not sure how much they are going to give me because they have asked me to wait.
