There are many fashion shows taking place in Uganda lately probably because the rate at which Ugandans are embracing fashion is also rising. But the Black Creations fashion show, produced by Joram Model Management that happened last evening at Imperial Royale hotel in collaboration with the Presidential Initiative on Skilling the Girl Child proved a class apart.

The set up by Silk Events was well set, with the walkway stretching to two sides of the hall. This enabled everyone in the audience to see the models as they were showcasing the creations from different inspirations by Amakula (Gifts to the kings) and Ready to Wear. Collections presented included the Corporate Collection inspired by the business sector and Brand Uganda that was inspired by the colours on the Ugandan flag, black yellow and red.

The theme was “Uganda’s Fashion Renaissance”. This was the first launch of the show that is going to be held annually and staged in different regions.

In attendance were fashion designers like Pamela Collections, socialites like Aly Alibhai, former Miss Uganda – Sylvia Namutebi and Phiona Bizzou – and musician Maro among other guests.

The performances from Lillian Mbabazi, Sandra Suubi, Ouma and the Band as well as Kenneth Mugabi were also on point as they each did two to three songs while emcess Roger Mugisha and Malaika Nnyanzi were at their best in keeping those in the audience up to speed with what was happening.

The Black creation fashion show is a baby to the brand known as Black Creation that was started in West Africa by Dr Joseph Tonye Brown with a vision to tell the African story through fashion and other aspects of life. In his message to those in attendance and to the President, Brown wrote, “With close to 40 million people in Uganda and given the fact that Uganda has the youngest population in the world and with majority of them being female, any efforts geared towards capacity building of the social segment especially the girl child is a factor one can’t wash away. This initiative is intended to build Uganda’s fashion industry and already, 700 girls are already skilled and graduated. They in the truest sense do represent the local content and facilitate the aspects of indigenous social inclusion and ownership”.
