Jackie Kizito’s ‘No Fear Album’ is a toast to modern Kadongo Kamu

Jackie Kizito

The year 2022 has been graced with a couple of music albums but Jackie Kizito’s No Fear is a monumental project that has attempted to bridge a gap between Ugandan music lovers of the 80’s and the millennials.

The 17-track piece of work is a reincarnation of Kadongo Kamu, a yester-year Uganda’s native music genre and Afro-fusion with works that are driven by local stories and a wide range of both modern and local instruments.

Nkoone which is the first track on the album reminisces with the sound of the famous Nantondo, a song by Uganda’s legend of the mid-40s, Toffa Ssebaduka who is presumed to be the grandfather of Kadongo Kamu music.

Kizito still chose to give a new look to Kadongo Kamu as he collaborated with Afro-fusionist Kenneth Mugabi and the two gave justice to local classical Nsangi Mwana wange on a sound from a bowed string fiddle alias endingidi.

With the song suddenly satisfying sonically, the story was also packaged to relate with the current generation with the message that speaks to the girl child on a wide range of issues including social media.

The album also provides space for the spoken word with a poet and spoken word artiste called Ssebo Lule. On both songs 12 and 17, Lule treats the listeners to his rich artistry with poetry on both traditional and modern instruments

No Fear is a piece of work full of mature lyrics and stories that speak to Ugandans across different divides. From Lusoga to English, the album is multi-lingual though it is dominated by Luganda.

Fusing musical elements of Afrobeat, Contemporary, sounds, pop, Kizomba and reggae, The Album was produced by Lex Logic, Felix pro, written by Fyno UG, Alvin Kizz and Dokta Brain and mastered by Jude Mugerwa

Known for songs like Mayumba Kumi, Tebasima, Side Dish, Plan B and Emiswaswangule, Jackie Kizito is an award-winning Folk – Kadongo Kamu Musician who also runs an even and Production house called Mwagala events.
