NOT SO MET! The 2024 MET Gala was no short of flair and oomph and while I feel like many of the looks were what could be deemed “underdressed”, some lived up to expectation.
It is deemed the hottest ticket in the world of fashion and it is not hard to see why. The stars came out fully decked in their best designer interpretation of the year’s theme, which was “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” this year, a theme that examines how technology can breathe new life into garments that are too old and fragile to be worn again.
The 2024 MET Gala was no short of flair and oomph and while I feel like many of the looks were what could be deemed “underdressed”, some lived up to expectation.
In no particular order, these are some of the most outstanding looks from the night.
Nicki Minaj in Marni
My favourite look from the night was this yellow avant-garde design by Marni. The dress was made to be a floral sculpture that she accessorised with matching yellow high heels and purpose. This dress was not only on theme but also stunning.
Zendaya in Maison Margiela
A co-chair of the 2024 MET Gala, Zendaya wore two looks for the night, but it was her Maison Margiela look that won it for me. The actress wore a haute couture gown that featured a hand-painted metallic run, a drape and bows layered from aluminium material and organza. Her main accessory was a hat and veil, completing her mythical look beautifully.
Tyla in Balmain
For her maiden attendance at the Gala, the South African singer turned to Balmain for her “passage of time” look, which was fully covered in layers of sand and micro crystals that were applied by hand to the fabric mould cast of her silhouette. She styled the look with a sand time capsule purse, which made for one of the most head-turning looks of the night.
Wisdom Kaye in Robert Wun
The TikTok Star made his debut in a red three-piece creation by Robert Wun, which was detailed with burnt-out intricates, adding to the mystery of the ensemble. He added a round hat and silver accessories to the look.
Bad bunny in Maison Margiela
The singer stepped out in this bespoke haute midnight blue suit, detailed with red inseams, styled with black gloves, black silk socks, and a foam hat. His most outstanding accessory was a black wool flower bouquet.
