For a second weekend running, Entebbe Golf Club’s (EGC) clubhouse gardens have been a hive of activity. On Saturday December 9, the lights were up again in celebration of the final round of the quarterly Katogo Invitational Golf Series.
The pairings of sisters Charity Atuhaire and Faith Namara and then Enock Nuwagaba and Jackson Were emerged as the best pairings after a rare format of play called ‘Oh Gosh’.
The emcees of the evening, Moses Ssebugwawo and Marvin Kagoro set the stage finely for the event bankrolled by I&M Bank and eight other sponsors.
The pinnacle of the night came when Janzi Band took to the stage, entertaining guests to the peak, with presentation of songs ranging from Bob Marley, Afrigo Band, Jose Chameleon, Vinka, Eddy Kenzo to the dead of the night.
“This is real, this is continuous. This is continuing for years,” said EGC captain Serwano Walusimbi.
Moments earlier though, I&M Bank CEO Robin Bairstow announced an extension of the relationship with the tournament.
“This is a brand of people that we would like to continue associating with,” Bairstow told the 19th Hole gathering.
“We will remain your partner for the next three years,” he stated, much to the applause of the audience, rallied by Kagoro and Ssebugwawo as DJ Soundbwoy’s Sound of Lagos played.
The Katogo Series is a creation by a section of players at Entebbe who used to share a meal after a round of golf.
Their rival group is called Kabalaza, another cluster of players who share time at the clubhouse balcony adjacent to airport route after playing golf.

“We are venturing out. Our brand is going to grow,” Katogo captain Hannington Mpima remarked.
Katogo trustees Kiryowa Kiwanuka and Edward Kabuuchu in honour of Bairstow’s gesture, gifted him a new putter club to start golfing.
And the tournament’s committee awarded two individuals on the evening; Eric Kawere with Shs1m for his commitment to their finance works and I&M’s head of marketing and corporate communications Annette Nakiyaga was rewarded with a plaque for bringing together nine sponsors for the event.
Nakiyaga was joined by her friends Andrew Kibaya, Elly ‘Sober’ Mukasa, Walusimbi and Herbert Opolot to receive her prestigious prize.
