Remanded Kampala socialite Charles Olimu alias Sipapa has accused police of detaining his breastfeeding wife Shamira Rukia Nakiyemba for over a week which he says was against the laws of Uganda.
The businessman also told court on Monday that he was detained for more than 48 hours before he was taken to court and this, he argues that it infringed on their rights as Ugandans.
Sipapa made the revelations through his new lawyers of Wameli & Co. Advocates whose services he sought his first legal team quit accusing him of failure to pay.
The new lawyers said they received instructions to represent the duo last Thursday.2

They told court that they intend to file an application for infringement on their clients’ rights.
“There was an infringement of liberty to my clients’ personal lives and in due course, we shall file an application. Mr Olimu was arrested and kept at Kireka [police] for over three days while his breastfeeding wife was in custody for over a week before being presented in court,” Sipapa’s lawyer, Geofrey Turyamusiima said.

On September 26, Sipapa’s lawyers of Elgon Advocates quit the case over his failure to pay them.
The duo on Monday appeared before Ms Esther Adikini, a Grade One Magistrate for further mention of their case of aggravated robbery of $429, 000 (about Shs1.6 billion) from a South Sudanese national, Jacob Arok.
Sipapa, a self-confessed supporter of president Museveni was arrested in September after nearly a week of playing hide and seek with police detectives.

He wife had been arrested days before after items stolen from Arok’s home in Kawuku, Bunga, in Makindye Division in Kampala were recovered from their residence at Kityo Close, Buwate village, in Kira Municipality.
They were arraigned in court on September 9 and slapped with six counts of aggravated robberies which were allegedly committed in August this year.
The court then remanded them to Luzira prison as hearing continues.
