Telecom Giant MTN Uganda, the sponsors of the MTN Nyege Nyege festival have announced on their twitter page that the party is still on, despite information that it has been cancelled.
“The Party is STILL ON with only 2 days to #MTNNyegeNyege, the biggest festival of the year. Join the party with Tickets still available at the Venue,” the tweet reads.
Earlier today, Eithic and Integrity Minister Fr Simon Lokodo wrote to the Internal Affairs Minister Jeje Odongo, asking that the festival be stopped.
“I urge you to instruct the Inspector General of Police to stop this event. I also propose to have a meeting with you, the IGP, Director of CID, to discuss this matter further,” the letter reads on part.
“I do not see any possibility of getting that clearance in time for the event to take place,” he said in an interview.
