Bobi Wine is Kyadondo East MP

Bobi Wine

Bobi Wine, the Ghetto President, (formerly ganja man)  is the new Member of Parliament for Kyadondo East. Bobi won the by-election that was held today by a landslide. Even before the final results were announced, Bobi Wine was seen on the shoulders of a fan, raising his hands in victory as he made his way to the polling station where he voted. In reaction to a question from a journalist when he arrived, Bobi Wine said, “First of all these people did not turn up to vote for me. They turned up to vote for the ideas we talked about.”

Bobi entered the race when the Court of Appeal nullified the votes of the then MP, Apollo Kantinti, thereby calling for a by-election. When he joined the race, there was a lot of excitement in the constituency and other parts of Kampala District.

Bobi Wine’s campaign was a notch higher than those of his fellow candidates. He usually went with his wife Barbie Kyagulanyi who always dressed to kill whether in a gomesi or a peplum dress. The crowds that came to his campaign were big and always had artistes who entertained them. On the second day of his campaign Geosteady, King Saha, Kalifah Aganaga, Spice Diana and Victor Kamenyo performed. His campaigns were not without drama and the last day saw him detained by police over the issues on following the guidelines to campaign. At the end of the day, he was the winner.

Bobi Wine from the start seemed sure of his win. He had started this campaign a long time ago, when he started focusing more on giving to charity in the area, standing in solidarity with the then FDC presidential candidate Kizza Besigye by visiting him at his home when he was under house arrest, and making political statements. He had planned this a long time ago. No wonder he took the day with a landslide.
