Opposites are supposed to attract but not Lucy (Sandra Bullock) and George (Hugh Grant). Lucy is a crazy lawyer, in fact at first it is hard to believe that she is a lawyer. She is so confused, dresses worse than a street lawyer or even hawker. She is a weirdo. She is an environment lawyer who decides to ask a real estate tycoon, George, to help stop the destruction of a community centre. He hires her and she accepts just so that the community centre is saved. She finds that though he has and can get almost everything that he wants, he knows almost nothing.
Being the Miss Perfection that Lucy is, it is easy for George to turn her into a more or is it worse lawyer. She is as good as his nanny. So when he needs to choose a tie, he tells her it is an emergency and even once made her walk out on a wedding where she was a bridesmaid.
When she had had enough, she decides to quit and gives a two-week notice during which she is to find a replacement. At first, it seems impossible to get a replacement but she finally finds someone to replace her. When she finally does, she realises that she misses George and maybe even feels a little more for him, though she just won’t admit it to anyone. It seems very unlikely that these two will end up together and that is what makes the movie interesting.
