Thursday March 16 marked exactly a year since singer Emmanuel Mayanja, aka AK47, passed on. A year later, the known cause of death remains “allegedly sliding and falling in the washrooms of Dejavu bar in Kansanga”.
As AK 47’s first passing anniversary drew closer, the Mayanjas – including singers Jose Chameleone, Pallaso, Weasle and their siblings, all hinted at organising a memorial mass to honour and remember their young brother.
However, all through social media discussions, no one came up with a definite date and venue for the memorial mass.
And come D-day, the late AK 47’s fans were still wondering where they had to go to pray and remember him.
Word is that different family members had different ideas for the mass; some proposed Christ the King church in Kampala, while others suggested a church along Entebbe Road – where the late used to go for prayers.
However, the parents were for organising mass in Kalangalo village, where AK 47’s remains were laid to rest.
According to sources close to the family, the disagreements went on until last Thursday.
Well, Mzee Mayanja, being the head of the family, chose to follow his mind and organised mass in Kalangalo, and he apparently informed the rest of the family just the day before.
On D-day though, neighbours and well-wishers that had gathered for prayers, had to wait for the younger Mayanjas to arrive to start prayers. Pallaso, his big brother Henry and sister Josephne made it, but not Chameleone and Weasel.
The two singers did not answer our calls and several calls to Mzee Mayanja also went unanswered. RIP AK 47!
