Every year, smartphones get better and cameras even better. But while Instagram popularised filters as the main mobile editing tool for photos, sometimes one may want a little more control. Snapseed, a free iOS and Android app from Google lets a user tune standard features like brightness, contrast and saturation, but also has powerful editing features like a dodge and burn brush, intelligent selective edits and a host of tunable filters. To edit an image, one doesn’t have to mess around with slides or dials. Instead, one is presented with an almost-full screen view of their image and they just drag their finger left or right to edit. That means one can see all the details in the image without UI element obstructing their view. Snapseed also has a lot of editing tools. You can brush on saturation to make certain areas pop with colour. Snapseed’s edits are non-destructive, meaning one can always go back and edit them.
