TALKING IT OUT: Although he will not forget the day his fiancee said “yes”, music producer Capital Ken says his worst memory is the day he lost his father and best friend. He told this and much more to his fan Wallia Hannie.
Hi Ken. Why the name Capital KEN?
It is something I came up with. It is nothing complicated, just my name in capital letters.

Tell me about your production.
I started music production in 2010 with Mun G’s Woloxing, Jack Move, Oli Mubi by Rabadaba, Nakudatta remix, among others, but before, I used to do radio adverts and one of the ads I did was Stanbic Bank (home and autoshow).

Which is your best song among those you have produced?
Lwaki Akaaba by Vampino. It is a reggae song and I did not do a lot of work on it but it turned out splendid. It is rich to the ears. There is also Smile by Irene Ntale and Vampino.

Where did you learn music production from?
I got a very big hand from Benon Mugumbya. He taught me the basics and I researched and taught myself the rest. Because I was a dancer before, I had the knowledge about sound wave which also gave me an insight about production.

What inspired you to start producing music?
I cannot say I was inspired by someone but Dr Dre’s Are You That Somebody gave me the idea of paying more attention to production.

What do you love most about production?
It comes with passion. When you are a producer, you listen to all details about a song and it is a bit challenging. I do not like being comfortable so I keep challenging myself because everything around us keeps changing.

What is your latest project?
Turning Me On by Rabadaba featuring Bruno K.

What else do you do besides music?
I am an events manager at Buzz events. I am also a farmer, graphics designer, DJ and MC.

What course did you study at campus?
I have a degree in Entrepreneurship and a degree in Information Technology both at Uganda Christian University, Mukono.

What is the easiest style of music to produce?
For me, it is dancehall because all you need is a heavy kick and heavy base.

Who is your best Ugandan artiste?
Bruno K because he is young, versatile and easy to work with; I have got a chance to work with many artistes but they are all somehow complicated but when it comes to Bruno K, he is cool.

And the best producers…
Benon Mugumbya, Michael Fingers and Steve Jean.

What are your hobbies?
I am a movie freak, I love football and I am a big fan of Manchester United. I also love travelling.

What is that bad thing you will never forget?
The day my dad died. He passed on at a time when we were getting close. I never grew up with him and on the day he died I also lost one of my best friends.

And the best thing…
The day my fiancée said yes, I will marry you. We are not yet married.
