Determination, confidence and strength are what 23-year old Zaharah Muhamad Nakiyaga displayed last Saturday night at the Masaka -based Club Ambiance. Nakiyaga’s attributes left almost everyone who attended the Miss Uganda 2015 central region pageant, contented that she deserved to wear the crown of the beauty queen of the region.
“It was my confidence and determination that made me win. I even see myself winning the national crown,” Nakiyaga told journalists  after receiving the crown from outgoing central region beauty queen Caroline Nantambi.
The new beauty queen is a third year Development Studies student at Makerere University.
Nakiyaga ,whose mother is a Kampala –based civil servant working with ministry of Internal Affairs and whose father is also a businessman at the city abattoir, said that she would use her new position to promote agriculture in the region by fighting the vice of land grabbing that is eating up most parts in the central region to ensure that even the poor can have a chance of owning land.
Julian Nabwowe, 23,  a first year student of Fashion and Design at Datamine Technical Business School Masaka campus, emerged as the first-runner-up, while Barbara Namuddu 19, a former Senior Six student at Kisaasi College School, was the second runner-up .
The top two girls in the central regional contests will be given another chance in the Kampala regional finals where they compete with other contestants for the national crown.
The contests were under the theme: “Beauty with a purpose, promoting agriculture in Uganda today.”
Ms Nakiyaga  dedicated her win to her sister Rehma Aanyu ,who she said is her role model.
The judges of the night were former Miss Uganda Phiona Bizzu, Janat Nalujja and outgoing central region beauty queen Caroline Nantambi.
