Nabwiso lands AMVCA nod

Nabwiso

Nabwiso

The nominees for the maiden edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards were announced on Monday and Mathew Nabwiso was the only Ugandan that got a nomination.

The actor was nominated in the Best Supporting Actor category for his role in A Good Catholic Girl, a short film that was made by Matt Bish. Nabwiso is up against actors like Nigeria’s Osita Iheme of the Aki and Pawpaw fame.

The awards, organised by M-Net’s Africa Magic Channel are meant to recognize the best and brightest film and TV personalities on the African continent.

According to M-Net, the initiative was designed to recognise and reward African excellence and creativity. In addition to having professionally judged categories, some categories will have the viewers themselves vote for winners.

The gala event is slated for March 9 in Lagos, Nigeria and it is just part of what M-Net has termed the awards season as they are screening several award shows between now and March on their different platforms. Already the Golden Globe Awards and Screen Actors’ Guild Awards have been held. The annual Style Awards are on this Sunday on the Style Network and the Grammy Awards will be screened next Monday on Channel O, while the Oscars will be screened on Febraury 25, on M-Net movies.

But as Ugandans, we await March 9 to see if our homeboy Nabwiso comes home with the trophy. Fingers crossed.
