Tusker Project Fame: Sharon out, Uganda out

Uganda’s journey on this year’s Tusker Project Fame edition was brought to a disappointing halt when Uganda’s remaining representative Sharon Nalwoga got evicted on Saturday.

During the live eviction show, the public saved Kenya’s Ruth Matete while the faculty saved another Kenyan Steve Homes and the Judges went for Burundi’s Joe Irakunda.

Much as you would like to argue that none of the above, apart from Ruth, is a better singer than Sharon, the fact is that our girl was not good enough.

But she had some spells where she surprised us with a couple of notes and hence a good sign that she could grow. It is based on this fact that Judge Juliana Kanyomozi tried to save her fellow country-woman saying that she believed Sharon had “potential to grow”.

Unfortunately, the other judges Hermis and Ian Mbugua chose Joe over Sharon and you wouldn’t blame them because the Ugandan girl seemed too tense for a performer.

Her eviction leaves no other Ugandan in the competition this year and therefore it will be Kenyans Ruth Matete, Doreen Nyawira and Steve Homes against Jackson Kalimba from Rwanda and Burundian Joe Irankuda.

The good news though is that all the top 10 contestants will have a song on a top 10 compilation album set for release tomorrow.

Besides Sharon, the other contestants on the album are Burundi’s Samantha Nzeyimana, Uganda’s Allan Roy Sekiranda, Kenyan Eunice Gutu and Nancy Chan from South-Sudan.

Several producers were hired to work on the project and these include Musyoka from Decimal Records, Ogopa DJs and TPF Judge Hermes Bariki. The album was recorded at the academy’s music director R Kay’s studios.

Meanwhile, all the 15 contestants who entered the academy will be present at the finale.

Ugandans are the biggest winners of Tusker Project Fame ever since it was launched. Esther Nabaasa won in 2008 and Davis Ntare in 2010. But this seems to be Kenya’s year as Ruth has proved to be a step ahead of everyone in the competition.
