NEW JOINT: Opened last Friday, the hangout promised “happening night life”, writes Edgar R. Batte.
The notion “come rain come sunshine” made sense on Good Friday, as a new hangout- Madiba’s Bar, Lounge and Restaurant officially launched. The skies opened up at about 10.30pm and did not relent until the wee houtrs of the morning, but revellers came in and crammed the joint.
Madiba’s, located in Kiwatule, just after the bridge as one heads to Najjera, entered the nightlife business under the tagline, “We are bringing happening nightlife this side of town”.
Socialite Judith Heard, who co-hosted the event with NTV Xposed presenter MC Kats, came in with her Fab Clan crew, and in the house were several celebrities. The waitresses and waiters made sure everyone had a beer and a hot plate filled with some sumptuous meals to partake.
Variety was on offer, from local food, kigere/Molokony (specially prepared cow hooves), boiled chicken and stew just the way drunkos like it, plus roast and pan-fried pork and goat muchomo that came with sukuma wiki, to mention but a few.
Media and sports personalities, among other guests, were also in the house. On the entertainment cards was new Swangz Avenue signing Winnie Nwagi and Mun-G. When the stage was not being utilised, deejays Peter Mars and Fyzo made sure that they selected groovy music for revellers to dance to and keep the cold away.
For those who wanted a bit of fresh air, there was backyard where they could play pool while others enjoyed games telecast on giant plasma screens at different points of the bar and lounge. If not, they sat in the comfy sofas and chatted over both soft and frothy stuff. The hangout is open all week.
“We are targeting the corporates that reside this side of town. Many middle class people are now residing in Kiwatule and Najjera but there was no decent place to cater for their entertainment needs, so they had to drive to town, but now we are here to bridge the gap,” said the hangout’s guest relations executive Joan Akankwasa.
“The place is already popular for soccer because of our giant 52-inch screens and we are rolling out theme nights like artistes’ video premieres, a resident band and comedy nights among others,” she added.
