Ugandans are yet to embrace Reggea music – Bebe Cool and Navio

Despite being a versatile artiste, Bebe Cool is mostly known as a reggae artiste. This is mainly because of several reasons including some of his catalog, the several awards he has in his cabin, and being referred to as Lucky Dube’s heir at some point.

The artiste however feels that despite the successes he has had doing reggae music, Ugandans are yet to embrace the genre as much as they have to others like Hip Hop, Ragga, and Afrobeat.

“Reggae music has been silently a part of our industry but when did Ugandans start to embrace it? Just recently, and when they have not even embraced it fully,” said the ‘Love You Everyday’ artiste during the televised press conference for the upcoming concert of UB40 featuring Ali Campbell slated for this Saturday at Kololo Independence grounds.

According to Bebe Cool understand and appreciate reggae, Ugandans must first become familiar with the core values of the genre. Reggae music is music for the soul with a message, not like any other genre.

Likewise, hip hop artist Navio had something to say about it. During the 1990s and early 2000s, reggae was overwhelmed by Hip Hop’s hype.

The two artists will perform on the same stage with the English band along with Vinka, Elijah Kitaka, Vampino, and Party People, among others.
