To mark 60 years of Uganda’s Independence, MoTIV Creations organised a two-day series of activities to enable creatives express their talent and offer the public an iconic pool of creative experience that reflects Uganda’s unique culture and rich heritage under the theme ‘I Pledge, UgandaAt60’.

Celebrated under the theme ‘A declaration of African interdependence and our shared destiny,’ the event was characterised by picturesque murals, performing arts, music, poetry, foul song, storytelling of Uganda’s literature and mouthwatering Ugandan delicacy and cuisine each prepared in a special way.

According to Japheth Kawanguzi, Team Lead at the Innovation Village, they launched the campaign to reaffirm their commitment towards building the nation and love for the country and for this specific year, the campaign will feature the role entrepreneurs can play in shaping the next 60 years.

The celebrations had started earlier with Vodo Arts Society inviting young artists in Kampala to collaborate on the conceptualisation, designing and painting of the Independence mural.

“Uganda is our home and as artists, we take pride in expressing our love for this nation through creating extraordinary artistic painting which are a symbol of freedom and shows a significant combination of heritage, creativity, and culture innovation of our young artists, said Joseph Wamala Kyeyune, the director, Vodo Art Society. He added that there was no better way to celebrate Uganda’s diamond jubilee than painting an independence mural that reflects the individuals, places and cultural aspects that are iconic and are part of Uganda’s rich historical journey.

The mural is painted on the exterior side of the MoTIV wall fence along Old Portbell Road.
