We are not collecting money for Namubiru – Family

Iryn Namubiru

Iryn Namubiru

As earlier indicated, Iryn Namubiru is due to appear in court on May 25, three weeks after she was arrested as is required by Japanese law, for trial. Yuko Matsumoto, a Tokyo lawyer was hired to represent her and she is said to be putting all necessary documents together to ensure Iryn gets justice or is at least extradited to France where she is a national.

However, back home to her motherland Uganda, rumour after rumour keep coming up about Iryn every single day. First was the rumour that Iryn had ordered manager Thadeus Mubiru who has in the past referred to himself as her brother, to protect and take care of her properties. However, Iryn’s younger sister Yvette Seguya posted on Facebook indicating that it was only their mother, who arrived from London on Tuesday that was in charge of the singer’s safety as well as that of her property.

There was also rumour about formation of a group code-named “Save Iryn project” that is apparently in charge of collecting funds to help pay Iryn’s legal fees in Japan. A few individuals including Fusion band boss,  Chris Kassami, Hotel Africana’s Hajji Bulaimu Kibirige, and music promoter Balam Baruhagare had already reportedly donated $1000 (about Shs 2.5m) towards the project. However, on Monday, Yvette, again through Facebook dismissed the allegations, saying there was no such a thing as fundraising money to save her sister. “My mum has asked me to inform everyone that they are not collecting any money for Iryn Namubiru Morel, whoever is saying that bagala kubanyaga… (they want to con you).”

Meanwhile, a post has been making rounds on the social networks of a Facebook chat between Iryn and a Japanese Kim Hong Lien implicating her in the drug deal but it has not been authenticated.
