The side of me that wants to be seen as a serious human says I shouldn’t write this but it is the truth, so I will say it. The main reason to watch Sweet Girl is Jason Momoa. Now that that is out of the way, let us get into what the movie is actually about. The plot is premised on Ray Cooper (Momoa), who loses his wife to an illness. When he finds out that it could have been avoided, he sets out to go after the people responsible for her death. But these are not small-small people, so going after them puts his life in danger. Oh his daughter, Rachel (Merced), is also in danger and Ray is not going to sit around and let anything happen to her. She is also not about that sit around and let daddy do all the work business so she is ready to pull her weight.

The little guy going after the bigger, more powerful guy is not a new plot. In fact it seems a little tired. But hey, if a ninth Fast and Furious movie was forced down our throats what is one more familiar plot. The action will meet all your ‘dush dush’ needs. The movie tackles some serious themes on big pharmaceutical companies and how they’re more concerned about making profits – makes you think about that company that decided to export Covid-19 vaccines to Europe instead of giving it to Africans. It is good to see Isabela Merced in an action thriller since most of her previous work has been targeting children and young adults. The movie is big on family so don’t be surprised if you see some Dom Toretto memes attached to it. Expect strong language though; it might not be a good idea to watch it with the little humans of the family.  By the way, this movie has no relation to Sweet Girl, the book.
