Miss teen returns after a two-year break

After a two-year break, the Mirinda Miss Teen pageant is making its way back, with a launch at Garden City Rooftop on Saturday.

Despite the low turn up, teens were treated to fun activities and entertainment from Vinka, Beenie Gunter and Mun G. Some of the activities saw participants win items such as t-shirts, soft drinks, among others.

The event marked the start of the sixth edition of the annual event which seeks to create a memorable experience with an intention of creating a platform for youth to explore creativity, fashionable and ambitious aspirations through guidance and mentorship.

With auditions running under the theme ‘Surprise and Be Surprised’, the Miss Teen tours will be done in 20 selected schools around the country, with an addition of 36 guest schools. After the regional tours, there will be a grand finale in which teens will be crowned in three categories; Miss Teen who will be a talented, fun, cultured and intelligent girl, Miss Ambitious who should know her career goals and how to achieve them and Miss Fashionista, who will be the girl who can creatively put together an interesting piece of fashion art using the props she is given. All these categories will have runners up.

But just like any pageant, judges will be the ones that hold the final word and the panel consists Natasha Sinayobye, Uthman Ssozi (MC Talha), Humphrey Wampula, Patience Ahabwe – Winner Miss Teen 2013, Shakira Ibrahim and Tyrah Maragach.

The winner of Miss Teen will walk away with Shs10m which will be rewarded in the form of school fees. The winners will also get chance to travel to the best amusement park in the world, which will be revealed during the school tours.
