VIDEO: Promoters task Police to explain why they block Bobi Wine concerts

Musician turned politician Robert Kyagulanyi, commonly known as Bobi Wine, sings on stage in Busabala, suburb of Kampala, Uganda, on November 10, 2018. Thousands of Ugandans thronged a lakeside recreation ground to attend the long awaited first music concert of the politician after previous attempts were blocked by the Ugandan police.

Concert promoters have given police three days to explain why they have continued to cancel music shows where singer Bobi Wine is expected or drag them to court over losses incurred.

This comes days after the Police canceled a concert in Jinja after reports that the Kyaddondo East MP was expected.

On Saturday evening, Bobi Wine said that police in Jinja District had raided a hotel he had booked into in search of him.

Earlier in the evening Police had blocked a show he was supposed to hold at Queen’s Place, a popular bar in Jinja town. Artistes including Sheebah Karungi, Gravity Omutujju and Nubian Lee were scheduled to perform.

Prior to his sold-out Kyarenga concert at Busabala beach last month, the show was tossed around. Stadium management, on grounds that the venue had been booked for a wedding, postponed the concert, which was to be held on October 20 at Namboole stadium.

He was later allowed to hold the concert at his Busabala beach, but warned to avoid involving politics in his performances.
