Only adults and revelers above 18 shall be allowed to access Nyege Nyege venue after 6pm, according to the MOU signed between police and the four day event organisers.

“The organisers undertake to ensure that the event shall be accessed only by adults and will ensure that no person under the age of 18 shall be allowed at the venue after 6pm. In event of doubt as to the age of a person perceived to be a child, production of evidence of age shall be mandatory,” reads part of the MOU, a copy of which was seen by this reporter.

The MOU further states that accreditation at the venue in Jinja District in Eastern Uganda shall be done by the Uganda Police Force in liaison with the event organisers.

“The purpose of the event is the promotion of culture, local music and tourism. The event therefore shall be held only in a maner consistent with this purpose,” the MOU reads further.

The event is scheduled to take place this weekend at Nile Discovery Beach in Jinja, by the source of the Nile.

However, authorities say there shall be no processions to and from the venue.

“The organisers shall provide to the police the detailed programme of the event to facilitate the deployment of security personnel,” further reads the MOU signed by AIGP Erasmus Twaruhukwa on behalf of police and Ali Allibhai for Talent Africa.
