Top Hollywood actor Samuel L. Jackson traces roots back to Gabon

Samuel L. Jackson meets the King of Benga

Despite being born and raised in the United States of America, holding citizenship, questions are always raised about the origins of most black people living in the US.

As such, ‘Finding your roots’, an American docu-series helps its guests discover their ancestral roots, through traditional genealogical research and genetics.

Through this initiative, top Hollywood actor and film producer Samuel L. Jackson has traced his lineage back to Gabon.

On July 23, Jackson received a hero’s homecoming in Gabon as he traced his ancestry back to the West African country.

Through the show, he found out that he belongs to the Benga tribe.

During his visit, Jackson met with the president, Ali Bongo Ondimba and his wife, Sylvia Bongo Ondimba.

It was during his meeting with the President that he was given a Gabonese passport

According to ‘Briefly’, a South African news agency, Jackson was in the country as part of his scheduled locations for the filming of ‘Enslaved’, a documentary series, which highlights the Trans-Atlantic slave trade.
