It might be some good years since Robinah Nambooze Kisitu aka Robin Kisti left her NTV job and went to the US but no, we have not stopped stalking her. Kisti, who has been silent is back in the news for a good cause.
As you read this, the former TV presenter together with a colleague only identified as Derrick, a Ugandan based in the US, are spearheading a campaign to help Ugandans in the Diaspora.
Come July 4 as America will be celebrating Independence, Ugandans in the US will move around the streets joined with other Americans donning T-shirts with the American flag but with Kisti’s face on it. The aim of the campaign dubbed #Theywillknowaboutus aims at influencing Ugandans in the diaspora to standup and be heard. The campaign will also advocate for Ugandan artistes in the diaspora to be known not only by the Ugandan community in America but also the Americans.
“I am influencing this new generation’s confidence and self-worth because back in the day as I was living as an immigrant I felt like I had no voice to even speak up,” Kisiti said, adding that she is trying to influence the young black generation to take hold of opportunities they once thought were impossible to achieve.
Well, good stuff. We just hope we won’t be hearing about riots and gunshots.
