Club video awards nominees list out

Nominees for this year’s Club Music Video Awards (CMVA) were unveiled early this week, with little-known Abaasa racking up seven nominations. Abaasa, a producer, drummer and artiste behind songs such as Wantengula, Ntegyerize and Simanyi among other hits is closely followed by followed by Winnie Nwagi and Cindy with five each.

According to Eddie Sendi, one of the judges, one of the challenges they faced while sieving the is the poor quality of the videos which are compressed. Artistes also submitted their videos in wrong categories.
“One reason Uganda is suffering on the international scene when it comes to videos is lack of ideas. About 70 per cent of Ugandan videos we received are in the same location, same video vixens and the same costumes,” he said during the announcement of the categories.
Unlike other awards, these CMVAs will be divided into two categories.
The first category, which includes Best Direction, Best Choreography, Best Cinematography, Best Special Effects, Best Use of Technology, Best Set Design and Best Costume and Make Up will be subjected voting by a Panel of Judges/ Technical team while the public will be vote for the Male Video of the Year, Female Video of the Year, New Comer of the Year, Collaboration of the year, Best Duo or Group, Inspirational/Message Video of the year, Viral YouTube Video of the year and Video of the year.
According to organisers, the CMVAs are a music award show, created specifically for Ugandans to celebrate and uplift tastefully different Urban music and culture.
They reflect the tastes of Uganda’s youth and offers an unprecedented global platform for Ugandan musicians to shine, and to spread the word about Uganda’s tastefully different music talent.
