After beating competition from 12 competitors, Mackline Atuhaire, a second year student of Kyambogo University, pursuing Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Accounting, was crowned this year’s Miss University.
The search for Miss University was launched a few months ago and about 100 girls entered the competition. However, after eliminations, the number was reduced to 20. Thereafter, seven others dropped off leaving the competition to 13 competitors. The 13 girls tussled it out at the International University of East Africa (IUEA) auditorium in Kansanga. Atubaire’s eloquence, intellect and poise won the affection of the judges. From the quizzes, the beauty queens went on to showcase different outfits which included evening wear, office wear and swim-suit.
From these events, a final selection was done and Sheila Tekitendwa from Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) was crowned first runner up while Alice Namutebi was second runner up.
Unlike other beauty pageants where winners walk away with cars, the Miss University took home a one year fully paid bursary.
