Meeting bruno k: He came to the limelight during the Trace Music Star competition where he came second but he is more popular for doing the acoustic rendition of Radio & Weasel’s Juicy Juicy hit. Bruno K spent time with his fan Caroline Mahoro.
Hi Bruno K. What have you been up to lately?
Well, I have been busy in studio recording music and shooting videos. I already have a song playing on radio titled Make Love Song which is starting to do well, and I have a video titled Nkoye Okulowooza which was produced and written by Nessim.
What is your real name?
Bruno Collins Kiggundu.
How would you describe yourself?
I am a young, ambitious, talented, principled and God-fearing man born and raised in Mukono District.
Besides the songs you mentioned above, what other songs do you have?
I have quite a number of songs, including Turning Me On alongside Rabadaba, Power and Gallileyo, among others. I also have acoustic versions but it’s Juicy Juicy that made a mark for me.
How did it feel redoing a song by Uganda’s dynamic duo?
Doing the Juicy Juicy cover was something that I wanted to do since I admire Radio and Weasel. It was also a surprise to me because the song ended up doing well and with the acceptance and push from Radio and Weasel, I was really motivated. It was an honour.
When did you realise you had the talent to sing?
I discovered it in my Senior Four when I was asked to head the worship team. I pulled it off and most of my friends encouraged me to push on.
You rose to fame after participating in the Trace stars. How did you come to know of the music competition?
I did not believe in myself until MC Kats pushed me to participate. He encouraged me, saying I stood a good chance at winning. It was that motivation that got me there. I came second after Sandra Suubi.
How grateful are you for participating in that competition?
I am so grateful because through the competition, I gained confidence in myself. I received a lot of wise words, especially from great artistes such as Julie Mutesasira, who told me to push on because she saw a bright future in me. I also got noticed and known because of the competition.
Tell me about your school background?
I went to Kitante Primary School and Kazinga Parents School, Seroma Christian High School for my O-Level and St Joseph’s Naggalama for my A-Level. I completed school at Ndejje University.
What style of music do you do?
I am mostly known as an Rn’B artiste but I can as well do dancehall and zouk.
Do you have any artiste you admire in Uganda?
Of course. Besides Radio and Weasel, I like Sheebah Karungi because she is so down to earth and sweet.
Are you working with someone or you are a solo artiste?
I am working with Ying Tude and Capital Ken. These guys are helping me a great deal in my music career.
Who is a complete artiste to you?
A complete artiste should be talented, have the passion for what they are doing and know how to play at least two music instruments.
