Hair business: Sharon Ndagire started her hair business with Shs2.5m that she got from her relatives on credit. Now she has made great business connections and has many customers.
What is the nature of your business?
I sell all kinds of hair pieces, both human and synthetic.
When did you start up this business?
I started the business last year around July.
How much did you invest in this business and where did you get that money from?
I used Shs2.5m to start it up and it is my close relatives who gave me the money but on credit and I paid them back when the business stabilised.
Why did you decide to go for this kind of business?
It all started with my love for hair. I cannot go three weeks without changing my hair style. This is what drove me to start up this business.
Where do you buy these hair pieces from?
For now, I buy the hair pieces from within Kampala. I get from companies like Darling and Angels but if the need arises my friends from the UK bring for me some.
How much do you sell these hair pieces?
The prices vary according to how much I purchased them, usually from Shs30k to Shs40k.
What challenges do you face doing this business?
I get less profits than I expected, my customers get lost in the buildings and other shops. I sometimes spend the whole day without selling a single piece, then I spend a lot of time convincing a customer to buy and at the end she does not buy. There is also the issue of rent that keeps increasing.
And the advantages?
I have been exposed to many people in the hair industry and companies, I have learnt to save, unlike before and I have made many friends who come to buy hair and they also bring more friends.
Where do you want to see this business three years from now?
Since I love this job, I want to expand it and keep in business even after three years.
