Exploiting opportunities: Nisha Ampurira has established contacts from her events business, and it is this that inspired her to start up a bar business. Today her bar that opened doors in September attracts artistes and socialites.
What kind of business do you do?
I own a bar called Ballers Lounge.
Why did you choose that name?
Ballers is a concept of swag. It is like a lounge for high rollers.
Like which “Ballers” come to this bar?
Musicians such as Jamal Wasswa, Ray Signature, Toniks, among others. Judith Heard and comedians such as Salvado, Alex Muhangi, as well as radio and TV personalities come here.
Why did you choose bar business?
Business is business regardless of the nature. I am from a business background, so I focus more on trading smart, plus I have been in entertainment for a long time that I felt need to invest in it. A bar helps me network with associates in my profession.
When did you open shop?
Ballers opened September 2015 but the set up and concept were initiated in 2014.

Where is the bar located?
It is located in Kisaasi after Ndundu Complex before Kyanja.
What is sold at this bar?
We sell assorted wines, beers, vodka, and whisky. Basically anything you will find in a standard bar.
What is the price of your drinks?
Our prices are determined by cost price, expenses and prospects but beers are only Shs3,500 but we have an ongoing promotion where three beers go for Shs10,000.
What advantages are in bar business?
You get to meet different people and learn how to handle them, and making profits at the end of the day.
Any challenges so far?
Because I handle events, it sometimes becomes difficult to monitor the bar.
When is it busiest and how many people can it accommodate?
It is open every day from 3pm till dawn and can accommodate up to 50 people, which is a good number for a lounge.
How do you attract your clients?
I have a huge following, especially on social media and in the entertainment industry so these people always come around to support me.
How do you handle drunk clients?
I treat them with respect because it is my bar that gets them drunk.
